About John Frauens
For over 26 years, John Frauens was an orthopaedic surgeon at the Kaiser Permanente Medical Care Program in Honolulu, Hawaii, where as the director of adult reconstructive surgery, he performed artificial hip and knee replacements, as well as bone tumor surgeries. In his time with Kaiser Permanente, he performed more than 3,000 joint replacements, achieving one of the lowest complication rates of any surgeon on staff. John Frauens also helped develop the Kaiser Hawaii Osteoporosis Program.
In 2010, Dr. Frauens retired from Kaiser to assume the role of president and chief executive officer of SoftJoint, Inc., a company focused on the research and development of synthetic cartilage. He also provides orthopaedic care for incarcerated individuals in Hawaii through a position with the Department of Public Safety.
Dr. John Frauens holds a bachelor of science in physical therapy from Temple University and earned his MD from the Temple University School of Medicine. Subsequently, he completed a residency and fellowship in orthopaedic rehabilitation through the University of Virginia Orthopaedic Residency Program.
